![]() PVC widely used from basement to rooftop 18-05-2004 About 60 per cent of the five million tonnes of PVC, that is the annual consumption, is used in building and construction. This includes pipes, floorings, cables, which make the big quantities, but the application of the PVC material is in fact widely spread throughout the modern building. In order to have the PVC applications more closely described, the PVC Information Council DK asked Erik Pingel, architect and journalist, to write a booklet on the subject. The booklet is now to be published. Erik Pingel has during his education and experience wide knowledge of modern building. He is a regular writer for the magazine “ark.byg”, “Mestertidende” and various other architectural magazines. Through the years Erik Pingel has written over 1000 articles on architectural issues. Besides the mere building-technical subjects, the booklet PVC in Building includes also an up-date on the most important environmental issues that are related to the use of PVC. Thus the booklet both informs about the mechanical and chemical recycling of PVC, and also the latest knowledge about incineration of PVC is included. Also the European PVC manufacturers’ comprehensive environmental programme, Vinyl 2010, is described. The 40 pages booklet will be sent to architects in DK in the time to come, but anyone who has an interest in PVC in building can apply for a free copy at mp@pvc.dk. Only Danish version is available, however a translation into English of eight of the subjects can be read here. In order to verify whether the booklet would appeal to architects, the PVC Information Council set up a small focus group of experienced architects. The judgement of the focus group was among others that the booklet was concrete, simple and very informative. All aspects are included and can be understood of everyone without much experience. The focus group concluded that you get to learn something during the reading. This is owing to the fact that the booklet describes many PVC applications that are unknown to architects. When the PVC Information Council attended the environmental exhibition, DanMiljø, in Herning late April, there was much interest in the new publication among the visitors. The issue of the booklet has been made possible by sponsorship from the following companies: Primo A/S, GSO (the flooring trade organization), Hydro Danmark A/S, Tarkett A/S, Wavin A/S, Uponor A/S, Protan A/S and RGS90. ![]() Join our news alert list by sending us an e-mail to pvc@pvc.dk - marked "News" |
