![]() Website offering decision makers and others basic knowledge on phthalates 10-08-2006 27-01-2006 The international website www.greenfacts.org has just been up-dated with a very thorough, but easily understood section on phthalates. Greenfacts is an organisation that tries to communicate complicated issues on health and environment to journalists, politicians and other interested. The people behind the website think that a better communication about scientific results about environment and health will contribute to a more constructive debate and sounder political decisions. Besides dealing with the phthalates – specifically DINP, the one most used today – a couple of fields of knowledge are described that one way or the other have relevance or have been connected to the debate on plasticized PVC. They are, besides the phthalates, about dioxin and hormone disrupting substances. Moreover the website is dealing with changes in climate, air pollution, eco systems and mercury. The subjects in question on the website are built in three strata. First stratum is in a summarising form, where the subject is dealt with in a short question and answer section. The second stratum goes more in details with the issue, and there is a long number of links that among others explain the meaning of the most common terms in the health and environment terminology. Third stratum is referring to various sources. Among others, as for the phthalates, there are references to the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration’s report on phthalate exposure, that was published a couple of years ago. What is also remarkable about the website is the way in which is referred to other websites about phthalates. For example you will be able to link ahead to organisations that do not consider phthalates representing any risk, and you will be able to link ahead to organisations that consider phthalates representing great risk. Greenfacts.org is originally an idea initiated and financed by the big Belgian chemical company Solvay, but today the website is supported by a long number of governments, foundations and business concerns. ![]() Join our news alert list by sending us an e-mail to pvc@pvc.dk - marked "News" |
